The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 of 13

The Letter of St. Paul

to the

Hebrews

Chapter

6

¹ Therefore let us go on toward perfection, leaving behind the basic teaching about Christ and not laying again the foundation: repentance from dead works and faith toward God, ² instruction about baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection from the dead, and eternal judgment.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verses 1 to 2)

Good morning oh Father. By means of this verse You seem to be telling me that I need to become more mature in my spiritual life and not remain stuck in relation to issues of the past but aim to experience growth and holiness in the Holy Spirit which replenishes and updates my soul in order to put me on track according to Your will Amen.

³ And we will do this, if God permits.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verse 3)

Oh God my beloved Father, this is the best of attitudes, if we had to add this clause to all our prayers adding the 'if God permits, clause or if this is the will of God our lives would be much better Amen. Oh God that Your will, will be fulfilled in me Amen and that You find pleasure in me Amen.

⁴ For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, ⁵ and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, ⁶ and then have fallen away, since on their own they are crucifying again the Son of God and are holding him up to contempt.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verses 4 to 6)

One of our many sayings one in particular of which I do not approve since I believe in God and change is the following:

Once a junky always a junky!

In the same way but with a more positive connotation I change it to the following:

Once a Christian always a Christian!

For one can never experience God and remain unchanged or the same, one can never meditate on the Word of God and remain unchanged to it. Even if we experience material or spiritual crisis and maybe even experience periods of coldness or unbelief, the flame of faith or its embers will still remain burning in our soul Amen.

⁷ Ground that drinks up the rain falling on it repeatedly, and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. ⁸ But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and on the verge of being cursed; its end is to be burned over.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verses 7 to 8)

Oh God my Father, I am thirsty for You, I cannot live without You. Even though I have been told against holy communion I will not hold this as acceptable according to my faith and values. I pray that I yield the crop that You want me to Yield, may nothing and nobody interfere in this mission that You have given me Amen.

⁹ Even though we speak in this way, beloved we are confident of better things in your case, things that belong to salvation.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verse 9)

Amen oh God, my Father I also have hopes for a better future especially now that You have given me a second chance. Amen. However, as always may Your will be done and not mine Amen.

¹⁰ For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verse 10)

Oh God my Father, many times I feel that what I do is not appreciated especially on a human level, but on reflecting I realize with Your help in a spirit of prayer, that I am simply an instrument in Your hand. You use me in different circumstances and situations, and therefore it is not I who accomplishes, but You through my person. I thank You for this enlightenment my God and Father Amen.

¹¹ And we want each one of you to show the same dilligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope to the very end, ¹² so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verse 10)

Oh God, my Father I feel a bit down right now, apart from believing in You, I would like a mission to aim and strive for, one that gives me spiritual fulfillment for I have given up on the world Amen.

¹¹ And we want each one of you to show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope to the very end, ¹² so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verses 11 to 12)

Oh God, my beloved Father, I pray that You keep the flame of faith alive in me and in many others. I pray for the gift of the Holy Spirit every day of my life so that I can also be an imitator and not be a person who gives lip service. I pray that the Holy Spirit always be alive and active in me Amen.

¹³ When God made a promise to Abraham he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, ¹⁴ saying, "I will surely bless you and multiply you." ¹⁵ And thus Abraham, having patiently endured, obtained the promise.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verses 13 to 15)

Oh God my Father, even though You swore by Your holy name, I a human will never do so, for Your name is Holy and always worthy to be praised. I thank You for giving me a new beginning and a new opportunity to follow You without being entangled in the ways of the world Amen.

¹⁶ Human beings, of course, swear by someone greater than themselves, and an oath given as confirmation puts an end to all dispute.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verse 16)

Human beings end up in court settling the dispute in front of a magistrate and taking an oath even though at times they are aware that they are guilty. I thank You for delivering me from such circumstances Amen.

¹⁷ In the same way, when God desired to show even more clearly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it by an oath, ¹⁸ so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible that God would prove false, we who have taken refuge might be strongly encouraged to seize the hope set before us.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verses 17 to 18)

Oh God You are our only hope and our salvation, You are unchangeable love and trust that is not affected by the sinful ways of the world. In You is found unchanging truth, leading to the ultimate way of life and salvation Amen.

¹⁹ We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters the inner shrine behind the curtain, ²⁰ where Jesus, a forerunner on our behalf, has entered, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 6 verses 19 to 20)

Oh God my Father, Jesus His Son and one in the same nature in unity with the Holy Spirit, You are my only hope. You are the aim that I am living for. You give sense to my life. Without You everything is really and truly an empty space that is not worth living for.

I would like to end this reflection on the  sixth chapter of the Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews, with the following prayer;-

Oh God my Father, You are the anchor of my soul, as long as You remain my anchor I can endure storms and tribulations because You are with me and I lack in nothing Amen. I pray that we always remain firmly attached together Amen.

The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 5

The Letter of St. Paul

to the

Hebrews

Chapter

5

¹ Every high priest chosen from among mortals is put in charge of things pertaining to God on their behalf, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 5 verse 1)

Oh God, my blessed Father, according to verse 1 the role of the Pope, Archbishops and Priests are only to take part in duties and roles pertaining to God and not be involved in issues of Politics as is the case in Malta. As a consequence, a lot of people had decided to abstain from going for mass and are still rejecting the Church for having had done so. I pray for the healing of such people so that they can return to Your body on earth and be an active participant in the Church Amen.

² He is able to deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is subject to weakness; ³ and because of this he must offer sacrifice for his own sins as well as for those of the people.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 5 verses 2 to 3)

Oh God, my beloved Father, I thank You for being so gentle and caring. I thank You for taking the burden of our sins on Yourself and offering Yourself to be sacrificed on our behalf. There is no greater love than this Amen.

⁴ And one does not presume to take this honor, but takes it only when called by God, just as Aaron was.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 5 verse 4)

Oh God my beloved Father, even though I was called personally by You, the people in Your Church denied me the opportunity of living the consecrated life or the vows of Holy Orders, however, I consecrate my life totally to You and whatever You want from me Amen.

⁵ So also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest, but was appointed by the one who said to him, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"; ⁶ as he says also in another place, "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek."

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 5 verses 5 to 6)

Oh God, my Father, I pray that You again anoint me as one of Your many sons, for I feel rejected and alone. I would like to feel that I belong to You, that we have that Father and son relationship Amen.

⁷ In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 5 verse 7)

Oh God my Father, as a sinner I also offer my prayers cries happiness and even my moments of stress because I know that You always listen to my prayers and that they are never in vain. Amen.

Although he was a Son, he learned Obedience through what he suffered; ⁹ and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, ¹⁰ having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 5 verses 8 to 10)

Oh God, my beloved Father, I would like to be like You, to learn through obedience, and to grow by means of it. Amen.

¹¹ About this we have much to say that is hard to explain, since you have become dull in understanding. ¹² For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic elements of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 5 verses 11 to 12)

Oh God my beloved and loving Father, even though I have been praying on the Bible since the year 2003 I am still a baby in the Word of God and still need further instruction. I thank You for the Community' Jesus  Saviour of which I am a member and by which You teach me many things about Yourself and Your Word Amen. I thank You for sending such Apostles and teachers in my life Amen.

¹³ for everyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is unskilled in the word of righteousness. ¹⁴ But solid food is for the mature, for those whose faculties have been trained by practice to distinguish good from evil.

(The Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews Chapter 5 verses 13 to 14)

Oh God, my Father, I pray that You be my spiritual and physical nutritionist. I pray that You feed me with the correct type of scripture and food that is according to my spiritual and physical development Amen.

Oh God my loving and caring Father, today is a very important day in my life. Today is the day when I say Good Bye to my old life and say hello to my new life, which is found in You my God and Father. Now that my marital status will be changed from that of married to separated I pray that You continue to help me mature in the Word of God and even as an individual on a spiritual, social and even psychological level Amen
